“Untitled” (Golden) by Felix Gonzalez-Torres
“Gonzalez-Torres choreographed experiences to be animated —by us. “Untitled” (Golden) is the last beaded curtain he made before he dying of AIDS in 1996. It was a direct response by artist Roni Horn called Gold Field, a mat of pure gold that Gonzalez-Torres saw as a “new landscape, a possible horizon, a place to rest and absolute beauty…a place to dream, to regain energy, to dare.” Step through the stands. Is this a performance? A sculpture? A landscape, or horizon? How does your touch or passage from one side to the other transform the work—from closed to open, from still to moving, from silent to energized?”
